Mud stains on washable fabrics must first be dried and covered with mud, as much as possible. Then wash the fabric in warm water.
Non-washable fabrics should be moistened with a detergent solution and rinsed with water.
Cover really stubborn mud stains with a solution of isopropyl alcohol, half and half with water. You can try to remove red earth stains with a rust remover (see Rust).
You should never pick up mud, before it is removed with a knife or a spatula. The stain needs to dry. A dry stain must be vacuumed with a vacuum cleaner without an attachment. Then moisten the cloth with a warm detergent solution - 1 teaspoon (5 ml) washing powder on 1 a glass (250 ml) water. Wash and dry alternately, and then wipe clean, with a damp cloth.
